A six-year-old boy and his grandparents were killed in an Amtrak train crash in upstate New York after getting stuck on the tracks at a railroad crossing. The family's Dodge pickup truck turned off River Road onto Felton Street in North Tonawanda and got caught on the train tracks as the railroad gates closed around them shortly before 8 p.m. on Friday. Three people in the car, David McMinn, 69, Olive Geldart, 66, and Ra'Mari Geldart, 6, were struck by an oncoming train.

A former high school teacher will spend 13 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to having sex with a student as many as 30 times, including once on a school field trip to Washington DC. Heather Hare, 33, was a family consumer science teacher at Bryant High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her relationship with the student occurred between August 2021 and April 2022. Investigators found that Hare had sex with the student in her car, her home and even in her classroom. The student was a senior at the time. They first encountered each other, she was assigned to give him one on one counseling.

Several yoga instructors in San Diego are pursuing legal action against the city over a ban on their free beachside classes. A local attorney issued a cease and desist letter to city officials, challenging the enforcement of updated vendor laws that now include recreational activities like yoga. The instructors, who operate on a donation basis, believed their small classes were exempt from the ordinance. However, recent enforcement actions have surprised them, including blocking classes with trucks. The instructors argue their classes constitute protected speech and plan to seek an injunction against the ordinance's enforcement.

The race, which is the antithesis of the exclusive Gumball 3000 rally and a self-admittedly poor man's version of France's 24 Hours of Le Mans, only permits cars which cost entrants $500 to purchase and renovate. One past competitor explains in a YouTube documentary, titled 24 Hours of Lemons: The World's Craziest Race, that the round-the-clock race is 'like Halloween meets gasoline... like Burning Man for car geeks.'

Popular restaurant chain Dirt Dog put on a free event on May 11 that advertised games, treats, face painting, and the chance to meet Bluey, the extremely popular Australian children's cartoon dog. However, the operation began heading South when some 3,000 people responded to the restaurant's Facebook event and staff were left entirely overwhelmed when hundreds of parents and children lined up down the block to meet Bluey. Robert Christie, a Chicago resident, is frustrated after years of semi-trucks damaging his property due to a nearby low-clearance bridge. Despite city-installed barriers and warning signs, trucks continue to reverse into his bungalow, causing repeated damage. The container ship that caused the deadly collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge was refloated at high tide Monday and began slowly moving back to port, guided by several tugboats. The Dali had been grounded at the collapse site for weeks after it lost power and crashed into one of the bridge's supporting columns on March 26, killing six construction workers and halting most maritime traffic through Baltimore's busy port. The ship appeared to start moving shortly after 6am as crews began maneuvering it out of the wreckage. It started and stopped a few times before slowly backing away from the collapse site.

Olive Teague was devastated when her 1996 Ford F350 RV was stolen from a Seattle street in December, along with all the equipment for the mermaid school she runs. Nearly four months later she was invited to pick it up from the Aberdeen police department after officers arrested the man they suspected of stealing it. But with the ignition long since punched out, officers had to draw on some deeply unofficial expertise to get the battered vehicle back on the road, returning with the tattooed suspect in an orange jumpsuit. 'I have to tell you, my coping skills in that moment were not up to par with dealing with that situation,' Olive said.
